WCAG is built around four principles — that content should be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. Level AA sits between the basic level (A) and the most extensive (AAA), covering things like contrast requirements, keyboard navigation, alt text, clear error messages and readable text size.

In the EU and Sweden, accessibility is regulated through laws such as the Digital Accessibility Act for public services and the Accessibility Act, which gradually extends to more private-sector actors, with WCAG 2.1 AA as the established technical benchmark.
